I've added a new page under the "Art" tab for my digital art.

These drawings are first created by hand, scanned into the computer, digitally cleaned up, coloured and resized. Limited and open edition prints are available on paper or canvas. Please use the contact page if you are interested in making a purchase.

I will be doing another exhibition, again at Bay Gallery, Plimmerton. This time I will be sharing the exhibition with my brother Simon, wife Cherry and daughter Crystal. I will have about 30 new works, all but one prints of digital creations (the other is a new pastel painting).

It's been a while since my last post, but I have not been idle! I have recently completed my Diploma of Art and Creativity at The Learning Connexion.

I have also been preparing for my first solo exhibition, "Crossover", at Bay Galllery, Plimmerton.

Moderate Success

I sold one painting, Tararua Sunrise No. 4.

The Rotary Art Show was not nearly as high a standard as I expected, with some pretty amateurish work on display, as well as some good quality work. None of my works won any awards. I probably wouldn't have given them awards as I don't think they were the best in any category, although of a comparable or better standard than most of the work on display I think.

Two More Exhibitions

I have three paintings each in two exhibitions over Labour weekend.

The Paraparaumu Rotary Tenth Annual Art Show and Competition runs from Friday 19th October to Monday 22 October at Southward Car Museum, Otaihanga Rd, Paraparaumu. The three paintings entered are "Abstract Eye"," Tararua Sunrise No. 3" and "Three Poplars".

The Mana Art Society annual exhibition and sale runs from 20 to 22 October at the Mana Art Society rooms at Plimmerton Domain, Porirua. The three paintings on show are "Low Tide, Pauatahanui Inlet", "Tararua Sunrise No. 4" and "Hazy Day, Parapara Range".

I have not entered either of these exhibitions previously. I imagine the standard is quite high at the Rotary Art Show. I suspect the Mana show will be the usual mixed bag.

My painting won first prize in the "works on canvas" section of the 2012 Wellington Emerging Artist Award.

This is my first award and is a major endorsement of my career as an artist.

There is also a people's choice award, to be decided based on voting over the course of the exhibition from 1st to 8th October. So if you feel like voting for my painting please call in at Artrium Gallery, Tinakori Rd, Wellington and cast your vote.

My painting "Hazy Day, Parapara Range" has been selected as one of 16 finalists in the 2012 Wellington Emerging Artist awards. The awards night is tomorrow - don't want to be too optimistic but it would be nice to win something.

Another Painting Finished, More Classes

I finished another acrylic landscape painting. You can see it here on the acrylic page. I think I got the aerial perspective pretty much nailed on this one.

I've done two more weekend classes. The first was "Structure and Form", with the first day concentrating on the bone structure of the human form, and the second looking at drawing from life, partly using the lessons from the first day and partly using a more gestural style.

I did my first weekend class for my Diploma course last weekend - Shades of Grey with Robert Franken. It was about charcoal drawing. We had big sheets of brown paper and worked from life in the morning, with other exercises in the afternoon.

The first afternoon exercise was drawing found objects. I did a leaf and twig as shown after the break.
