The last couple of weeks have been really busy, with 23 pictures to frame, mostly for my participation in the upcoming "By Land or By Sea" exhibition at Artrium Gallery.
The exhibition opening is on Thursday 6 June from 5:30 to 8:30 pm - please call in if you are in the area. There will be wine and snacks, and some great pictures to look at (and buy if you're so inclined).

I get my frames from Artprint in Kaiapoi. They do a kit with the frame, mat, backing board, D rings and mounting cord. I get the glass cut at Kapi-Mana Glass and put the parts together. It's much less expensive than getting a framer to do the whole job, and I have control over how the painting is mounted. I use a spacer between the backing board and the mat for pastels, so that if any dust falls off it will not discolour the mat.
It's relatively straightforward to put all the bits together, with the most time consuming part being the final assembly - keeping anything from getting between the mat and the glass is quite a challenge. Sometimes it takes up to half a dozen tries to get it right.
I also did another acrylic painting which I'll show on my next post, bought a car and started my new part time fire engineering job (and built three model gliders in my spare time!).
