Acrylics
Three more paintings completed.
Pukerua Bay Sunrise is another pretty cliché subject, but was an attempt to capture the colours of early morning and get more practice at graduated colour washes. I mixed up the colours for each corner, then a mid range between each corner at top and bottom. I painted the background over the whole canvas, blending the colours as I went.

Then I put in the cloud band, once again blending the various shades of grey. Finally the silhouette of the hills, using a slightly brownish black.
All the colours in this painting are mixed from a basic palette of ultramarine blue, crimson, cadmium yellow medium and titanium white.
The Watchers is based on a black and white doodle I did a while ago. The "characters" don't have any particular meaning, but are meant to look as though they might. I quite like the skeletal figure on the stool - I will probably do more of this type of work.
Happy Sad is a complete departure from anything I've done before, pretty much just putting paint on the board at random until some kind of form started to emerge. I'm quite pleased with the result.

I See Red
The theme of the next exhibition at Artrium Gallery is "I See Red". I will have at least two paintings, possibly three or four in the exhibition. This theme was partly what inspired "The Watchers" to be done in red on the black background.
Opening night is 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., 5th July at Artrium Gallery, 310 Tinakori Rd, Thorndon, Wellington. All are welcome.
